I have now 3 times registered for this forum. Not because I necessarily because I want to post something at this moment, but to start monitoring this forum for myself and registering allows for easier noticing new threads and post.
Like I said, I registered 3 times (in a few weeks), and each time, when I come back after a few days, I cant log in anymore, not even retrieve my password, as if I never registered.
So either there is something wrong in the registering scripts, or one needs to post at least one time to enter the permanent forum member list, which I would now have fullfilled |

Hi,
I'm sorry about the inconvenience but due to so many spam messages and invalid users, most of the time with no posts, I deleted once in a while the users without a post.
If you have other suggestions about dealing with spam on the phpbb forum let me know |

I understand the problem, spam is irritating. However, the registration form does have a captcha, which should prevent autobots from registrate. Accounts that do spam can just be revoked.
Anyway, like I said, I wanted to register for easier tracking of new posts, without necesarilly posting immediately. I think this is a very common practice at support forums and often leads to participating eventually. But if registration is revoked within a few days, I think a lot of people will walk away.
For the record, I'm not trying you to say how to run this forum, just expressing my thoughts |

Hi,
I guess even captcha is working properly there are a lot of humans spamming this forum.
I get around 250 spam posts a day both caught and not caught by the spam filter. That is too much too delete by hand.
I agree it is not very fair to many readers of this forum and I am still improving this without letting those spammer get through.
Thanx again for your patience and thoughts about this issue. |

| BTW: To monitor the forum, I can recommend to use the RSS feed. For me this is much easier than visiting the forum regularly and to check for to new posts in the several categories. |

I use rss feeds for a lot of sites already, but I'm hesitant to use it for forums as it tends to flood my rss reader.
Anyway, the way I usually approach a new forum is to first register, take some time to see how things are going at that forum, and after some time participate.
I have used PEAR for over a year now and just recently bumped against this forum, which raised my interest. It's a real shame that this forum is subject to a lot of spam. I hope this can be solved in the future. |
